Research Village

Masters Hochbau II Entwurf
Winter 18-19

In a post-fossil future, where resource scarcity and climate change have become an unavoidable reality, new spaces and typologies will be required for us to find answers to the challenges facing humanity. In the Research Village project, adaptable and circular building systems will be developed using natural building materials to house a new trans-discplinery research building typology. The project scenario assumes that in order for the TU to pursue a credible future orientated sustainability policy, it will no longer be able to reserve parking spaces for staff on campus thus freeing up large areas for experimentation. The Research Village will occupy one of the most visible of these new fields of experimentation: Straße des 17. Juni, where groups will initialy develop a modular low-tech building system in timber and experiment with dimensions, elements and connections in 1:1 as part of a DesignBuild task on the TU Campus.
