HOPE HOME – НАДІЯ is a German-Ukrainian pilot project for radically different – ecological – construction in Ukraine; it has quickly become the center of a transdisciplinary network for the use of renewable building materials and deals with the entire spectrum of sustainable construction: from the necessary soil decontamination to the cultivation of organic building materials, the reuse of materials from demolished houses to model house construction with hemp, straw, wood, clay and thatch, mushroom and wool, as well as issues of certification and scalability.
Background of the project:
Just few months ago, in late summer, we presented how we work with these renewable, CO₂-free building materials, with combinations of the materials with each other through a material show and workshops at the Kyiv Chamber of Architects, and have signed a memorandum with the military administration of the Mykolayiv district. Representatives of the village council of Pervomayske, Mykolayiv oblast, have invited HOPE HOME – НАДІЯ to start repairing and healing the destroyed main school and community center in order to encourage young families to return. Pervomayske wants to become a hub for research into ecological construction using renewable, hybrid and recycled materials. Because the residents there need a sign of our support, our empathy and the experience that we are not just making promises for an indefinite future, but are putting the memorandum into practice.
