The community Eden is located near to Oranienburg, just outside of Berlin; this year they will celebrate their 125th anniversary making them the oldest exisiting lebensreform community cooperative in Germany.
Die Siedlung Eden bei Oranienburg feiert 2018 ihr 125jähriges Gründungsjubiläum und ist damit die älteste noch bestehende lebensreformerische Siedlungsgenossenschaft.
The community has experienced many challenges since its foundation, from the national socialist movement, the DDR regime and finally the post-seperation reorganisation of the early 1990s. Nevertheless, the community managed to retain a core of co-operative organisation and identification relating to the founding phillosophy.In order to secure the future of the community and its unique legacy, the orginal Eden ideals of land, economic and lifestyle reform require a contemporary re:interpretation. As part of this process, students from the Natural Building Lab will develop concrete spatial concepts for the Eden community with a focus on a partially derelict fruit-pressing factory and other potential sites in the centre of Eden. During an excursion the group will construct an Agora as a communicative festival infra-structure for the cultural program surrounding the anniversary year being hosted by the Re:form collective. The project and integrated seminar (PIV) are being run in collaboration with the Habitat Unit.
Vom Nationalsozialismus über die DDR-Zeit bis hin zur Treuhand-gelenkten Nachwendezeit war sie Veränderungen und Herausforderungen unterworfen und hat dennoch einen Kern von genossenschaftlicher Organisation und Identifikationspotenzial bewahrt. Um ihren Fortbestand dauerhaft zu sichern arbeitet die Genossenschaft nun an einer zukunftsweisenden Neuausrichtung, die die ursprünglichen Edener Ziele der ‚Boden-, Wirtschafts- und Lebensreform‘ zeitgemäß umsetzt. Aufbauend auf diesen Prozess werden wir uns im Entwurfsstudio konkreten räumlichen Konzepten mit einem Fokus der Umnutzung eines teilweise leerstehenden Mostereibetriebs und der zugehörigen Freiflächen im Zentrum Edens widmen. Während einer Exkursionswoche wird als Build-Anteil des Studios in Eden eine Agora für die 125 Jahrfeier realisiert. Das Entwurfsstudio und die projektintegrierte Veranstaltung werden in Kollaboration mit der Habitat Unit angeboten.
